Finding the Best Pork Satay

Sometimes the best food is found in unexpected places. After a meeting in Roxy, I stumbled upon Sate Babi Roxy. This place has a five-star rating on Google Maps, and I had to try it.

Sate Babi Roxy is located at Jalan Ternate number 16A. When I arrived, it was raining, which made the cozy atmosphere even better. The restaurant is in a residential area, making it a comfortable spot to enjoy a meal.

A Look at the Menu

Sate Babi Roxy offers a variety of satays. You can find:

  • Sate Roxy Original
  • Sate Roxy Pedas (Spicy)
  • Sate Samcan Asin (Salty)
  • Sate Samcan Manis (Sweet)

I decided to try one of each! To drink, I ordered iced tea. They also have rice套餐 (sets) available to make it a complete meal.

Watching the Magic Happen

While waiting for the food, I got a peek at how they make the satay. It was great to see the care and attention that goes into each dish.

Tasting the Satay

The moment of truth arrived! I tried the Sate Babi Roxy first. There are two versions: original and spicy. The meat was juicy and flavorful, showing the high-quality, fresh ingredients used. The owner shops at the market every morning to ensure the meat is fresh.

Sate Roxy: Original and Spicy

The original Sate Roxy was delicious. The flavors were just right, not too strong.

The spicy version had a nice kick. Adding the pickled bengkoang (jicama) was a unique touch. Usually, pickles are made with chili, onion, and cucumber. The bengkoang added a crispy texture and refreshing taste.

The smoky flavor of the slightly charred parts of the satay was amazing. This dish with warm rice is a must-try! It’s a family recipe, and the business started during the COVID pandemic.

Sate Samcan: Salty and Sweet

Next, I tried the Sate Samcan.

  • Salty: The salty satay had a great mix of skin, fat, and meat. The skin was easy to bite through, and the flavors blended perfectly. Adding chili sauce made it taste like sate taicha. The pork had no strong smell, which is impressive.
  • Sweet: The sweet satay tasted like a different kind of dish. It was similar to babiong, but in satay form.

Mixing all the satays together with soy sauce created an amazing combination. You definitely need to eat this with warm rice.

More Than Just Satay

Sate Babi Roxy also offers other dishes, like mie kangkung babi (pork water spinach noodles). There’s plenty to explore on the menu!

Meeting the Owner

After the meal, I had the chance to chat with the owner, Po Imron. We shared stories and talked about all things pork. It was a great experience to connect with someone passionate about their food.

Final Thoughts

Sate Babi Roxy is a place you need to visit. The satay is worth the five-star rating. The prices are reasonable, and the menu has a lot to offer.

If you’re in the Roxy area, be sure to stop by Sate Babi Roxy. You won’t be disappointed!
